Class Descriptions | Class Locations | What To Wear

Our bright and airy studio in Brighton, dedicated solely to belly dance, provides a relaxed and comfortable environment for our students to learn this fabulous dance.

Furnished with wall length mirrors and wooden floors, our studio is also perfect for harem parties and other belly dance functions. The Bellydance Kizmet studio has hosted local, interstate and international master teachers for belly dance workshops.

Class Descriptions

All classes will learn veil work and most classes, will have the opportunity to play finger cymbals (zills).

New Beginners

For those with no previous belly dance experience.

General 1

For those who have had 1-2 terms of Bellydance. Techniques are improved on with simple combinations.

General 2

For those with a minimum of 6 months of Bellydance.

General 3

For those who have approximately one year’s dance experience and need to be challenged by a higher level. Students should have a good grounding in technique.

Intermediate

Usually for those with at least one to two years of Middle Eastern dance experience. This class will create some solo work as well as improve on technique.

Advanced

This class is usually for a minimum of 2 years previous dance experience and students will be expected to do short solos within a group dance piece and will have the opportunity to do their own choreographies

Mixed/Ongoing

A Class for those who have done none-to-some Middle Eastern dance. A general class designed around mixed abilities. Open to New Beginners. More advanced students will be encouraged to attend the General 2 or 3 class, or one of the Intermediate sessions.

Adolescents

A funky fun class designed for young people. This class focuses on posture, flexibility, self-esteem and technique. A soft blend of traditional bellydance and contemporary dance styles. Approximate age group from 13 –17yrs.

Belly Bop

A fun dance class. A chance to follow or create on your own. Minimal Technique, Maximum dance. Join a group of women who want to dance for the sake of dancing. Every 2nd Saturday.

Little Genies

A fun class for 7 – 12 yr olds. Bellydance as well as creative dance based on Middle Eastern folk tales.

Over 40’s

An elegant style for women who wish to learn amongst women of similar age. This class focuses on strengthening abdominal muscles and improving flexibility. Most of the dancing is done on flat feet and is slightly quieter than the general classes.

Performance Session

For those who want to perform. Covers all aspects of music, costuming & stage presence. A choreography based class, with techniques covered as required.

Tribal

A fusion folkloric dance form. A group dance relying on cues and transitions from one step to the next to create a harmonious dance style. Some bellydance experience is required

What should I wear to class?

Leotard or fitting top with leggings / gympants.

Footwear is optional - bare-feet, jiffies or flat dance shoes or are preferred.

Whatever you wear, ensure you feel comfortable.
